Infest - No Man´s Slave (2002)

Infest was an influential American hardcore punk band, formed in Los Angeles, CA from 1986 to 1996. They were instrumental in pioneering powerviolence, a musical cross-breeding of hardcore, sludge and grindcore. Members were Joe Denunzio (vocals), Matt Domino (guitar), Dave Ring (bass) and Chris Clift (drums).
The band , while not coining the term powerviolence, were definitely pioneers of it. The Los Angeles quartet blended the ethos, speed and song structure of hardcore, along with the aggression and anger of bands like Negative Approach and Negative FX creating a style emulated by many and an energy captured by few. Joe Denunzio’s vocals exhibited pure angst, with lyrical content about conformity, war, scene politics and socio-political issues, mostly delivered in an accusation assault.
They did however differ from their peers in their fervent political stance and imagery, often depicting the tragedies of war and poverty, countering the obligatory “band in action” album covers common to the era. When asked about the hardcore scene Matt Domino said, “I think Hard Stance rips it up and Chain of Strength are cool, but Insted and Breakaway are pretty cheesy. It seems most hardcore bands are going for a polished sound and package, we are really not into that.” On the contrary, Infest’s sound was fuzzy and on many of the early recordings indecipherable, but still captured their raw intensity.
On July 1, 1991, Infest recorded a live set for the Los Angeles radio station KXLU, capturing them in their element. This session was later released by Deep Six Records who also released the No Man’s Slave LP. The vocals on No Man’s Slave where recorded posthumously. Many Infest bootlegs have been made and are highly sought after by fans.
They recently has become a highly popular retro band among not only modern grindcore and thrash fans, but with fans of youth crew hardcore although the band themselves were NOT straight edge, and there are zine interviews to confirm this, they are commonly mistaken for an ‘edge’ band . Bands such as Internal Affairs and Lack of Interest have cultivated a great deal of influence from Infest.
The band is still technically around, but they rarely play shows or record anymore.

Charles Bronson - Complete Discography (2000)

Charles Bronson was a hardcore/thrash band from Dekalb, Illinois. Noted for their use of film/TV samples as postmodern metacommentary within the structure of their music. (The eponymous self-referencing sample comes from Gary Oldman’s character in True Romance.) They played fast and heavy thrash and hardcore along with contemporaries such as MK-Ultra and Social Coma. Their two-disc discography, entitled Complete Discocrappy, was released on Youth Attack Recordings/625 Thrashcore in 2000. Members went on to be in bands like Holy Molar, Das Oath, and Ruination. Contrary to popular thought, only half the band was actually straight-edge.

Ratos de Porão - Brasil (1989)

Ratos de Porão is one of the most important Brazilian punk rock bands, being the punk rock enthusiasts who propelled the advent of Brazilian rock in the ’80s in São Paulo. Appreciated in Europe, they recorded their albums Brasil and Anarkophobia in Berlin, Germany. The group was formed in 1981 by friends who used to hang out at the Punk Rock Discos record store in São Paulo. Their earliest performance for a major audience was in 1982 at the First Punk Festival of São Paulo, aka O Começo do Fim Do Mundo (The Beginning of the End of the World). In that same year, they participated on the collection Sub. After vocalist João Gordo joined the group in 1984, they gradually abandoned their die-hard punk approach for hardcore and then, in 1987 (Vivendo Cada Dia Mais Sujo e Agressivo) to a heavy metal crossover. Also in 1984, they released their first solo album, Crucificados Pelo Sistema. In 1985, they shared a live album with Cólera, and appeared on a British collection of punk bands from around the world, World Class Punk. Having one of the biggest discographies of the Brazilian punk bands, Ratos de Porão were paid tribute in 1998 when several other punk groups, like Verminose, Anões de Jardim, Gangrena Gasosa, and Poindexter recorded their songs on the CD Traidô.

A foursome since 1993, Zeke has released a handful of EPs and full-lengths through Wrecking Ball Records and IFA Records, but inked a deal with Epitaph in 1998. Kicked in the Teeth came up from the vaults to be issued that same year, with Dirty Sanchez following in early 2000. Siege - Drop Dead (1994)

Siege was an American hardcore punk band from Weymouth, Massachusetts. They were active in the 1980s Boston hardcore scene from 1983 to 1985, and reunited briefly in the early 1990s. Siege’s unprecedented level of extreme hardcore punk was some of the fastest and heaviest of its time, incorporing lightning fast tempos, chord changes, vocal delivery, and blast beats into its style, thus setting the stage for the emerging grindcore scene. And though rather short-lived and little-known during their existence, subsequent musicians have cited the group as a profound influence, including the famous British grindcore band Napalm Death and the American powerviolence band Dropdead, whose namesake was derived from the title of Siege’s demo of the same name.

Krigshot - Terroristattack EP (1997)

Krigshot started during the late spring of 1997 when Jallo called Anders and asked if he wanted to play the drums in a new band picking inspiration from Mob 47’s most fast and furious parts. Anders, being a fan of that particular style, obviously said yes at once. The idea was to write and record songs for a possible 7” EP and see if someone was willing to release it. By forcing Mieszko to join the band, they could record for free in his studio.

Das Oath - Das Oath (2004)

Das Oath have been controversially tearing up the hardcore scene for years, making themselves the ‘enfants terrible’ of their own scene! The band’s inception in 2000 started with the self-released first single on Youth Attack Records, Gloom Records and Coalition Records, who also recently released a discography CD of all their odd and nearly impossible to find vinyl material up to their debut album. Das Oath have constantly been pushing their own boundaries and their vision on punk, by subverting their art through their record covers and layouts.

Man Is The Bastard - The Brutality Continues (1996)

Man is the Bastard were a pioneering hardcore punk band who contributed the name, and perhaps also the ethos, to the punk subgenre known as power violence. Based in Claremont, CA, the band existed from 1991 to 1997, releasing many vinyl records on DIY-punk labels from around the world.
In addition, MITB exist as a nucleus around which many prominent bands can be traced within a recognizable lineage: Pillsbury Hardcore, Peace Corpse, Pissed Happy Children, Neanderthal, Infest, No Comment, Loomis Slovak, Atavism of Twilight, Sleestak, Buckethead, The Locust, Bastard Noise, Born Against, Djam Karet etc. – this is just a partial list of individuals tied to MITB.

Jesus Cröst - 010 (2010)

Jesus Crust started as a project around 1997. In 1997 they recorded their first demo ‘Punk is Dead’. This tape is still considered to be a pretty good release, although the recordings are quite rough and primary
(due to the fact that they were actually a test). During these recordings Jesus Crust was temporary joined by
guest vocalist Mandy. Her guest-membership would actually continue to last for a few years.
In 1998 the band decided to take things more seriously, although it would remain a project for much more years. Later, JC was fed up with the punk scene, and their music had nothing in common with crust , they turned into grind/powerviolence.

Ludichrist - Immaculate Deception (1986)

Ludichrist was an American hardcore punk/speed metal band formed in the 1980s in New York. Their musical style broke from traditional New York hardcore roots by adding aspects of rock, heavy metal and jazz, like extended guitar solos and musical interludes. After their second proper album, lead singer Tommy Christ and guitarist Glen Cummings broke up the band and reformed with a new rhythm section as the more humor-oriented, style-jumping Scatterbrain.

Nausea - The Punk Terrorist Anthology Vol. 1 (2004)

Nausea was an American crust punk band from New York City’s C-Squat in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan, from 1985-1992. Like such predecessors as the anarchist band Crass, Nausea featured both male and female vocals. They were heavily involved in the Lower East Side squatting community, and active during a dark period in American history, under the right-wing purgatory of the Reagan Administration amidst the “Arms Race”, the Iran-Contra Affair and imminent threats of nuclear war with the USSR. Nausea’s final line-up was: John John Jesse (bass), Victor Venom (guitar), Amy Miret (vocals), Al Long (vocals), and Roy Mayorga (drums). Past members were Neil Robinson (vocals, 1987-88; replaced by Al), Pablo Jacobson (drums, 1985-87), and Jimmy Williams(drums, 1987-88).
